Happy New Year to everyone!!

I am looking forward to posting a blog with helpful resources for parents. I want to start the year with a topic that is so important to children’s speech and language development. It is PLAY!!!

We live in a world that is based around technology which is great, but play is so important. A child learns so much from playing while sitting on the floor. They develop better eye and hand coordination, social skills and speech and language.

If you can sit with your child for 10-15 minutes with no tv or electronic devices and for example take out blocks. You stack them up and watch your child knock them down. If your child is a toddler use words like uh oh, up, down, more and done. You can enjoy the activity even with older kids by using your imagination. So drop your Iphone, Ipad or computer and PLAY. It will be bring back so many happy memories when play was so important in our lives.

Stumped on where to start? There are so many lessons that can be learned while playing with blocks. Check out this article for some great tips to get started now.
